This Friday August 7 at 6 pm, learn about the music of the Indigenous Ajuuyk (Mixe) bands of Mexico, with a presentation from Fabián Muenala and music from Pat Boy, as part of the 6th Annual Week of Indigenous Peoples hosted by the Concejo de Pueblos Originarios de Nueva York. (Mostly in Spanish and Mixe)

Next Wednesday August 12 at 6 pm, come to NYC’s famous art book store Printed Matter to hear ELA co-director Ross Perlin in dialogue with artist Chang Yuchen, creator of the Coral Dictionary, whose work is on display

On Sunday August 23 from 11 am to 7 pm in the Bronx, drop in on NewYorkTlan 2026, the beautiful annual festival of Indigenous Mexican food, art, dance, and more put on by our friends from La Red de Pueblos Trasnacionales

On Tuesday August 27 from 4:30 to 6 pm, ELA hosts a hybrid event launching a book about the life of Sosoo’ and the Elnhet people of Paraguay (see below/ver abajo)

… and then at 7 pm, live at Bowery Poetry Club in the East Village, it’s The Forest Remembers, an evening of Afro-Caribbean music, poetry, and film hosted by ELA board member Nyasha Laing

And save the date: the last week of October will mark the return of the legendary People’s Poetry Gathering, and ELA will be collaborating on an event with Poets House, City Lore, and the Bowery Poetry Club, more details coming soon
