Volunteers and researchers past and present have helped out on a wide range of ELA projects.
Who We Are
ELA's network is an extended family of linguists, language activists, community leaders, students, volunteers, and lovers of language in NYC and the world over.
ELA is led by a small team of experienced linguists and language activists based in New York City.
Speakers of over 100 languages have worked with ELA on a wide range of projects, from documenting their languages to hosting celebrations of art and culture.
ELA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entirely supported by donations. Support has come from major federal agencies such as the NSF, NEA, and NEH, as well as city agencies, universities, private foundations, institutes, corporations, and individuals.
ELA's Board of Directors reflects a range of expertise and diverse backgrounds.
Formed in 2012, ELA Toronto is a sister organization to ELA in NYC, independently pursuing a similar mission to support language communities in Canada's most linguistically diverse city.
ELA's work has been covered by The New York Times, the BBC, and many other outlets.
